Arkansas lawmakers file a bill to change how taxes work for remote employees [Video]

If the bill passes, workers who are in Arkansas for 15 days or less, or earn less than $2,500 for work done there, would no longer have to pay Arkansas’s income tax.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A bill has now been filed in the Arkansas House of Representatives to change the way the tax code works for remote employees.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. David Ray (R-Maumelle) with Sen. Jonathan Dismang (R-Searcy) as a co-sponsor.

Ray said that currently, Arkansas’s tax code for individuals who don’t live in the state but occasionally work here is needlessly complicated.

“Currently, if you earn a single dollar in the state of Arkansas during the calendar year, you are, by law, required to file an income tax return,” Ray said.
