Siouxland Regional Transit System making plans for Phase 2 including electric buses [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Siouxland Regional Transit System (SRTS) has been in its new facility since September 2023 along Gordon Drive and Highway 20, but staff are ready to enter into what they are calling Phase 2.

Phase 2 starts with more federal funding, SRTS applied recently for a $12 million federal grant to help with the expansion.

SRTS wants to expand the Sioux City facility by adding more bus storage, electric buses, and office space.

The initial plan, before the pandemic was to use a $7 million federal grant to make their current bus storage facility large enough to hold all 35 buses.

With inflation, the design was reduced to 15 bus stalls, leaving the remaining buses outside in the elements.
