Ryanair grows due to delay of passenger cap [Video]

Local councils should not be involved in decisions that concern Dublin Airport as it is not “an extension to someone’s house”, Ryanair chief executive Eddie Wilson said yesterday.

The airport’s controversial 32 million passenger cap has been suspended for next summer after Ryanair’s successful recent legal challenge in the High Court.

The budget airline, which has long campaigned for the cap to be raised to 36 million-a-year, is adding an extra aircraft to Dublin on the back of November’s ruling.

“It’s a piece of national infrastructure, and our view is that it should be done at a national level, and not at a level that gets the same level of attention as an extension to someone’s house,” said Mr Wilson.

The cap was originally imposed by Fingal County Council as part of its permission to build a second terminal at the airport.
