South Burlington’s new climate action planner springing into action [Video]

One of Vermont’s biggest cities is rolling out a new strategy to meet the state’s climate goals. The Climate Action Plan adopted by South Burlington’s City Council is now in motion, with the arrival of its new climate action planner, Bettina Miguez. “Ultimately, it’s exciting work because most of the actions that you can take will really result in better quality of life,” said Miguez. The plan is set to tackle every part of residential life, from transportation to electrifying buildings to creating more walk and bike-friendly neighborhoods.All with the goal to reduce emissions by 60% by 2030 and hopefully 95% by 2050. Other goals include replacing 30% of lawns with native plant species, building more resilient stormwater infrastructure and encouraging carpooling among school districts to lower carbon emissions.Miguez said she recognizes that she will have to be creative in her initiatives with the possibility of pulling funds from places …
