East Texas bakeries dealing with higher egg prices [Video]

TYLER, Texas — East Texas is feeling the impact of higher egg prices.

According to the Associated Press, the price of eggs has more than doubled since the summer of 2023. And businesses like Great Harvest Bread Company in Tyler rely on eggs to keep the store afloat.

“Whether it’s cookies or a lot of our bars, eggs are just core to everything baked,” Laura Jones, who owns Great Harvest in Tyler, said. “The drastic increase in egg prices has affected just how we run the bakery.”

Jones says a case of eggs costs the bakery over $100.

The major reason egg prices are so high is due to a wave of bird flu sweeping across the United States. The sickness has forced farmers across the country to kill countless hens.
