A Taste of San Diego Unified [Video]

Garfield, Hoover, San Diego, Mira Mesa and Morse offer the popular elective, and it starts with a class on food preparation.

SAN DIEGO — Local high school students showcased their culinary skills Thursday, as their brand new and first ever food truck, hit the street.

They called the inaugural event “A Taste of San Diego Unified.”

“It’s a way for them to really explore their interests and find out what they might want to pursue in the future,” Sarah Vielma said, who is the Director of College Career and Technical Education.

Garfield, Hoover, San Diego, Mira Mesa and Morse offer the popular elective, and it starts with a class on food preparation. Now the advanced culinary class includes a completely student designed and operated food truck, called “Sunset Bites.” Chicken tacos, beef sliders and acai bowls are on the menu.
