Airbnb Sued After Guest ‘Catastrophically Injured’ at House [Video]

Airbnb is being sued after a guest was shot and left paralyzed at a birthday party hosted in one of its rentals.

Martin Ford, the owner of the rental property in Asheville, North Carolina, is also named in the lawsuit, which was filed by Marcus Deshon Blair on January 8. The plaintiff is seeking punitive damages and legal fees due to alleged negligence on behalf of the company and the property owner after receiving life-altering injuries at the party in 2022.

Newsweek has contacted Airbnb and Ford’s attorneys for comment via email.

There are strict regulations in the city of Asheville surrounding short-term rentals, which have been in place since 2018. This is one of several lawsuits filed involving Airbnb properties in the Asheville area for various reasons, including people dumping human waste at a house, and operating illegal homestays.
