Alaskans feel impacts of global internet outage [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU)— Alaska flights, hospitals, courts, government offices, and small businesses were among those caught up in a faulty security update that plagued much of the world Thursday night and Friday morning.

The issues stemmed from the cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, which caused chaos worldwide for customers running Microsoft Windows.

In Alaska, the first wave of impacts were seen when state troopers notified Alaskans that many 911 and non-emergency call centers were not working due to the outage.

The systems were restored early Friday morning, but some were still awaiting relief as of Friday afternoon, including passengers at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, who were part of the 40,000 flight delays and 4,000 cancellations nationwide reported by FlightAware.

As of Friday afternoon, Ted Stevens airport had experienced 50 delays and eight cancellations or delays.
