Amid security concerns, Tucson police to assign extra 100 officers to work on Election Day [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Department will deploy 100 additional police officers on Election Day in order to make voters and poll workers feel safe.

The officers will start their shift when the polls open at 6 a.m. and it will end when all the voters are gone and the poll workers have wrapped up their business for the day, even if it extends past midnight.

It’s the result of a planning effort that has been going on for several weeks among local, state, and federal agencies.

“We have a number of plans, but the plans are in place to scale up if need be,” said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Those plans can quickly be scaled up if threats are discovered or if things get heated on election day.

It’s possible they will because tensions are running high in this election cycle.
