Applications open for Nebraskas Child Care Tax Credit Act [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Nebraska’s Child Care Tax Credit may have been passed back in 2023, but the start of 2025 will be the first time its effects are seen.

“State lawmakers passed it with one key purpose in mind,” said Michael Medwick of First Five Nebraska, one of the major proponents for the legislature. “To alleviate some of the financial pressures on families raising young children.”

The act will allow the parents or legal guardians of children aged five or under to apply for added credit on this year’s tax return to help cover the costs of childcare.

Applicants must be in a household with a 2024 gross income of under $150,000 in order to qualify. Those that made less than $75,000 have the possibility to receive $2,000 per child. Households that made between $75,000 and $150,000 can apply to receive $1,000 per child.
