Reading and listening to agreeable viewpoints is not necessarily helpful.

Sure, it feels good to hear someone say that what you believe to be true is indeed true.

But hearing something over and over doesn’t necessarily make it so.

It may be better to spend some time on counter arguments.

Personally, I firmly believe stocks are better for long-term investing than bonds.

Then, instead of listening to someone like Jeremy Siegel, who champions stock investing on any news outlet that will have him, I should consider taking time to consider opposing views.

I could for example take time to understand the views of Jeremy Grantham, co-founder of GMO.

Grantham is not afraid to be in the minority when most Wall Street strategists are optimistic.
