SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The parent company of the Argus Leader is suing the City of Sioux Falls.

The lawsuit from Gannett comes after the city council voted last month to change the city’s official newspaper for posting public notices from the Argus Leader to the Dakota Scout.

The lawsuit alleges that the Scout did not submit paperwork required by the state by Jan. 1, but rather did so in July.

The claim says the earliest the Scout could have legal newspaper status is 2025.

Jonathan Ellis, a co-founder of the Dakota Scout, released a statement saying in part that the publication complies with state law on newspaper status.
