State and federal emergency management teams are on the ground in Kotzebue this week. The city of Kotzebue says teams from the State of Alaska, FEMA, and the Small Business Administration are conducting a preliminary damage assessment this week. They’re trying to gather information to determine if a state request for federal aid is needed, following a powerful coastal storm in October.

The U.S. Coast Guard will be offering public tours of one of its polar icebreakers in Juneau. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy will be on hand at the Juneau Cruise Port on Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can come by for a tour of the cutter and learn all about its missions and what happens on board.
