BBB Tip-Off to the Rip-Off [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — As temperatures cool and it gets dark earlier, it’s time to shed some light on fall scams.

When leaves start to fall, home improvement projects like furnace checkups, chimney sweeps and gutter repairs kick into high gear.

Before you hire anyone to help prepare your home for another Chicagoland winter, always make sure to check business backgrounds, including ratings, reviews, and references.

Be on the lookout for scammers and substandard companies that reach out to you unsolicited, especially those going door-to-door offering special discounts or putting pressure on you to get started right away.

Never let an unknown contractor enter your residence unless you’ve invited them, and always let a friend or family member know if you’re expecting someone to stop by.
