Beachgoers at Hammonasset State Park not deterred by gloomy start to day [Video]

MADISON, CT (WFSB) – The weather may not have started out sunny, but that didn’t scare beachgoers and campers at Hammonasset State Park Friday.

“It’s just fun, you wake up to the birds chirping and it’s an overall great experience,” said Nathan Martinez.

He has been able to come there with his family for the past three years.

“It’s like a vibe, they grill, we go to the beach itself. It’s more of a well gathered community out here,” he continued.

A community that gathers no matter the weather. For Martinez, a little rain isn’t going to dampen his shine.

“It just builds memories, and then lets next time we go camping, we say omg last time remember we did this,” he said.

That’s the same sentiment for 10-year-old Daniel Witkowski.

“Usually riding around on our bikes, fish and we catch crabs sometimes,” he said.
