RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – While Veterans Day may have already passed, Black Hills Federal Credit Union continues to honor both Veterans and first responders year-round, through a unique company tradition.
These small but significant coins are historically tied to the military as tokens of recognition.
The staff of Black Hills Federal Credit Union are given a handful of challenge coins to hand out to Veterans and first responders they meet in the community throughout the whole year, to commemorate their service and acknowledge their sacrifices.
Black Hills Federal Credit Union President and CEO Jerry Schmidt says this tradition started two years ago as a way to say ‘thank you’ to Veterans they serve at the Credit Union, or just heroes they meet in their day-to-day lives.
