WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Civil Air Patrol in northeastern Iowa is facing a tougher future as a big funding source could ground some of its mission.
The Civil Air Patrol is best known as a branch of the U-S Air Force that provides emergency services while also giving young people an aerospace education.
Thursday night the Civil Air Patrol brought together this year’s cadets to show off what they’ve learned and to get the public interested in the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
“I absolutely love this program because we just get involved, we learn about aerospace, which is always interesting. We learn about leadership, and followership which we don’t think about,” said cadet Salma Sahir-Orozco.
Aside from its cadet program, the Civil Air Patrol also does volunteer disaster response from its nine active squadrons across Iowa.
