Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Bowden Francis had himself a day against the Los Angeles Angels. He almost no-hit the Angels, taking the bid into the 9th inning.
Angels outfielder Taylor Ward led off the 9th inning with a home run to break things up. Francis left the game to a standing ovation from the supportive Toronto crowd.
Francis was at 116 pitches when he gave up the home run. It was a long day for the starter and he just wasn’t able to close the deal.
There have been three prior no-hitters this season. One was thrown by Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco, against the Blue Jays, another by San Francisco Giants lefty Blake Snell, against the Cincinnati Reds, and by San Diego Padres ace Dylan Cease against the Washington Nationals.
