BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Starting on Sept. 28, the Broken Arrow Mounted Patrol Unit will be hosting a 40-hour certification course to help the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department launch their own mounted patrol unit.
The class, consisting of two BAPD officers and six Lighthorse police officers, will be taught by two instructors with the Broken Arrow Police Department.
“This program aims to keep Oklahoma’s heritage alive while strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the communities we serve,” said Officer Conner Poole, one of the members of BAPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit. “The history of law enforcement is carried on the back of a horse.”
Both officers and their horses will receive training revolving around formations, obstacle desensitization, custody and control, crowd control and escorts.
