Brown County Board approves grant for nonprofit to help prevent human trafficking around NFL Draft [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – On Wednesday night, the Brown County Board of Supervisors approved a $20,000 grant to the nonprofit organization Awaken to help fund human trafficking awareness projects and provide community support leading up to the NFL draft.

The board vote was unanimous and now the work continues for Awaken as they plan to set up canvassing events and train local businesses on what to keep an eye out for during the large-scale event.

Kasia Klaus, Awaken’s executive director, estimates half of the grant will be spent on prevention training and promotional materials while the remaining amount will go towards emergency services for survivors, such as food and shelter. They also plan to be available for survivors during the week of the draft, telling us that being a presence in the community is just as huge.
