Businesses in Old Town brace for possible flooding, storms [Video]

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — Businesses in the Old Town neighborhood of Alexandria are bracing for the possibility of rising floodwaters and storms overnight Thursday.

High tide late Thursday morning brought water into the streets and sidewalks near the busy King St and Union St intersection.

Businesses in the area are no strangers to regular flooding, and have plans in place when the forecast calls for rain or storms.

The Old Town Starbucks location had a large delivery of industrial-sized, 60-pound sandbags after noon Thursday as floodwaters started to recede, building up a small wall to try and keep water out.

Business owners on the block say water often seeps through the older rock-and-mortar exterior of those buildings.
