Canton Cash causes confusion for residents [Video]

CANTON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A campaign to keep shopping dollars local has caused an unforeseen problem in Canton.

“Canton Cash” now involved four shoppers, city police and the Attorney General’s Office.

Every small business owner loves to hear the sound of another customer walking in their door. In Canton, their annual Christmas shopping campaign has run into problems this year.

Although the Canton Cash campaign has been around for years, the local paper announced new dollar amounts on the front page.

It appears a few shoppers were not aware of the details of the program as described in the adjacent article that the coupons needed to be purchased with the idea of giving them to others as a gift.

Nick Cordova is concerned the misunderstanding has gone too far.

“I would love to go shopping in Canton. Hopefully, my friend is not in jail,” Cordova said.
