SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The new Capital YMCA held its grand opening in downtown Sacramento Tuesday morning.
It’s in the building on 8th Street that used to house the Capital Athletic Club before it closed at the end of 2023 citing ‘significant challenges.’
At the time of its closing, the club had been a gym for nearly four decades, but it has a new life as a YMCA.
According to Sierra Bamsey, the marketing and communications director for YMCA of Superior California, the building is owned by the Capital Area Development Authority (CADA).
Bamsey says CADA reached out to YMCA in 2024 about a partnership and then gave them a lease for the building.
