CCPC clears Musgrave takeover of Healy Supermarkets [Video]

Musgrave‘s takeover of Meath-based Healy Supermarkets Ltd has been cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

The retail and wholesale giant reached a deal to acquire Healy Supermarkets, which operates a SuperValu store and Tara Newsagents in Dunshauglin, in October.

There are 259 SuperValu stores on the island of Ireland, of which Musgrave operates fewer than 50, with the Dunshaughlin location due to become the latest.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed

Musgrave also owns the Centra, Donnybrook Fair and Mace franchises, and its brands now operate a total of 1,343 retail stores in Ireland and Spain.

Group turnover exceeded €5bn for the first time last year, increasing 6% from €4.7bn in 2022, while profits increase €5m year-on-year from €99m to €103.9m.

Pre-tax profits increased year-on-year from €116m to €128m, and the group ended the year with cash reserves of €193m, down from €238m a year prior.
