City of Brookings to potentially merge local economic development agencies [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce announced that the City of Brookings is considering merging multiple local economic development agencies. However, there are still a lot of unknowns.

The agencies involved would include the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, Brookings Economic Development Corporation, Downtown Brookings, and Visit Brookings.

The BACC gave a list of what they know so far:

• This effort is being led by a committee established by the Brookings City Council, tasked with developing an implementation plan that outlines the structure, funding, and mission of the new organization.
• The committee, made up of representatives familiar with the work of each organization, will meet twice a month through March. Their final plan will be presented to the City Council in April 2025.
