City of Hanahan cracks down on usage of signs so streets arent littered [Video]

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCSC) – The city of Hanahan is looking into altering rules in one of its ordinances that involves the use of signs.

The city council approved the first of three readings at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Mayor Christie Rainwater said they felt that their current sign ordinance was too broad, and they wanted to be more specific so people can still get their message out, but the city won’t also be cluttered with signs.

“We want to make sure that people are able to get their message out. We want to make sure that we are supporting small businesses. We want to make sure that freedom of speech is granted, but we also want to make sure the city is not littered with signs on every corner,” Rainwater said.
