City partners with non-profits to tackle affordable housing [Video]

The city of Spartanburg has partnered with several groups to help develop vacant lots into affordable homes to tackle a need in the community. One of the groups, Oak and Ave Impact, said their goal is to target people who may have not otherwise been able to afford a place to call their own. “These areas are being redeveloped. They’re being gentrified in some cases. We’re making sure that marginalized people have the opportunity to take part into that game,” said Christopher “CeeJ” Jefferson, the CEO of Oak and Ave Property Group. Scattered across the city of Spartanburg are vacant lots that both the city and nonprofits are trying to turn into semi-custom single-family homes.The city recently gave the non-profit nine vacant lots at no cost.
