Composting pilot program in Belfast to start in the fall | Local News [Video]

BELFAST — A place to drop off food scraps for composting will become available for Belfast residents in the fall.

What first began as a citizens initiative months prior became a reality on Tuesday, July 16th when Belfast City Council voted unanimously to start a drop-off site at the City of Belfast Transfer Station for residents who want to convert their food scraps into compost.

The citizen’s initiative searched for local composting services and landed on Scrapdogs Community Compost. A Rockland-based company founded in 2018 who composts out of Washington that according to Co-owner Davis Saltonstall, has offered its services to Belfast residential and commercial customers for the last couple years.

According to the Transfer Station Manager Lottie Rolfe, the one-year pilot program will kick-off in October with Scrapdogs being contracted by the City of Belfast.
