Democrat Ty Pinkins makes second attempt at statewide office | News [Video]

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – Democrat Ty Pinkins is making his second bid for statewide office.

He came up short in the 2023 race for Secretary of State.

The attorney and military veteran said one thing he’ll support if elected is a $50,000 tax credit to support small businesses.

“Currently, there’s a $5,000 tax credit for people trying to open a small business,” Pinkins said. “Tell me a business that you can open that’s going to be serious if they’re getting a $5,000 tax credit.”

Pinkins is the underdog in the race against Roger Wicker.

A Democrat has not won a US Senate election in Mississippi since John Stennis won reelection in 1982.

Wicker is a familiar face locally, having run for office since 1988.

He is in his 16th year as one of Mississippi’s senators in Washington.
