SPOKANE, Wash. – The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is taking legal action against Inland Power after an
Court documents reveal that on August 18, 2023, sparks from a faulting electrical line on a power pole and security light owned by Inland Power ignited the fire.
The Gray Fire resulted in one death and caused significant destruction, burning over 10,000 acres of land. It destroyed 240 homes and 86 buildings.
DNR claims that Inland Power’s failure to properly operate, monitor, and maintain the power pole forced the department to use extensive resources to suppress the fire.
Through the lawsuit, DNR seeks compensation from Inland Power to cover the costs incurred during the firefighting efforts.
