Dept. of Revenue facing subpoena over alleged misuse of funds [Video]

PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Government Operations and Audit Committee (GOAC) heard from several departments on Monday, including the Department of Revenue.

The concerns of GOAC center around recent allegations of staff using their positions for personal gain.

Now, GOAC is taking a closer look at the Vehicle Registration Department following the notification of three employees found to be using questionable practices.

One of the three employees, who is now deceased, was alleged to have created titles for possible fictitious RVs and acquired loans for them.

A second announcement of avoiding taxes and improperly using a notary brought charges for two more employees.

Department of Revenue Secretary Michael Houdyshell touted a new system to be implemented in February to bring more checks and balances to registration processes to avoid future concerns with the rollout of the 605 Drive project.
