When the clock struck midnight, the first in-person, Election Day votes in the 2024 presidential general election were cast and counted in one of New England’s tiniest towns. Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, continued its decadeslong tradition of being the first in the nation to make its voting voice heard on Election Day. The community has six voters. “This is the starting line for our Democratic process. At midnight we’ll start voting,” said Town moderator Tom Tillotson. “If everybody else did what we do and we had 100% participation, we’d have a fantastic election. Our job is to encourage people to get out and vote.”The voting began at midnight Tuesday morning and lasted only about seven minutes. Numerous of cameras were there, outnumbering the voters.
