Dubuque increases public electric vehicle charging station fees by 47% to match rising demand, electricity costs [Video]

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – Charging an electric vehicle at a public EV station in Dubuque will cost 47% more starting Monday, January 27.

The city is raising its charging fee from $0.17 per kilowatt-hour to $0.25/kWh.

“That’s still half the price of the superchargers here by Tesla,” says John Fick, an electric vehicle owner from Platteville, Wisconsin. “I probably won’t use it as often as I used to, just because I live so close, but if you’re coming from, say, Chicago, this is still cheaper than going to a really fast charger.”

Fick says he visits Dubuque several times a month for meetings and other events, leaving his Tesla on a city charger for a couple hours. The increase will cost Fick nearly an extra dollar for every two hours on the charger.

The city’s EV charging stations used to be free when the machines were installed in 2015. Dubuque …
