Pacer Olly Stone will play his first Test in three years, replacing the injured star seamer Mark Wood in England’s XI for the second Test match to face Sri Lanka at Lord’s.
Wood’s impressive 97mph/156kph performance against West Indies last month was followed by a thigh injury in the first Test against Sri Lanka, ruling him out for the remainder of the series. As a result, England has made a single change to their lineup for the Lord’s Test, bringing in Olly Stone as a replacement.
Despite struggling with injuries throughout his career, Stone has been a consistent presence in England squads when fit, and has made a notable 28 appearances across formats for Nottinghamshire and London Spirit this summer, his second-highest tally in a single season.
