WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – An evacuation order asking residents to leave an area near a railcar leak in Whitewater Township has been lifted.
Officials lifted the order at 6:15 p.m. and re-opened the roads that were closed after a rail car near U.S. 50 and Ohio 128 began leaking styrene, a dangerous chemical, on Tuesday afternoon.
Little Miami Fire Chief Mike Siefke said there were no explosions from the leak or loss of property and the water in the area was safe to drink. The railcar was moved from the area to its destination.
Siefke said Three Rivers School would be open on Thursday.
Stephen Feagins, the Medical Director for Hamilton County Public Health, said residents should throw out any opened food inside or outside the home, including pet food. He said residents should wipe down outside surfaces and wash bedding or sheets they may have had outside.
