Evacuations lowered for wildfire burning near Antelope in Wasco Co. [Video]

WASCO COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) – Evacuations have been downgraded for a wildfire burning in Wasco County.

The Bennett Fire was sparked Sunday evening by lightning and began spreading rapidly. As of Monday, the wildfire was reported to be about 400 acres in size.

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office ordered a Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation for the entire city of Antelope due to the wildfire. Those evacuation orders were lowered to Level 2 “Be Set” just after noon on Monday.

The City of Shaniko is under a Level 1 “Be Ready” order.

The Shaniko Schoolhouse is open as a Red Cross Shelter.
