BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The expansion at Blue Bell Creameries in Broken Arrow is underway.
Last November, FOX23 told you the ice cream company received an award from the Business Expansion and Retention Incentive Program (BEIP) gifting them $2.25 million for the project.
If you’ve recently driven by the facility near East 81st Street and the Broken Arrow Expressway, you may have noticed a building under construction.
Marty Kilgore with Blue Bell Creameries said many people are questioning what exactly is being built.
“A casino, a hotel, that’s probably the funniest, that we are going to build a casino attached to our plant,” he said.
However, it’s not a casino, hotel or office space.
It’s their new Automated Storage and Retrieval System, also known as ASRS.
The ASRS is going to hold 8,500 pallets of ice cream. This will double the facility’s capacity.
Right now, you can see inside the ASRS from the street.
The two purple legs are the cranes running the storage space.
