TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – This time of year is a favorite for scammers – but there have never been more ways for fraudsters to get your money.

Thieves are banking on this emotional, busy, expensive time of year to catch you off guard.

They’re putting new twists on old scams.

And we’re not just talking texts and emails.

You should also keep your guard up on social media selling platforms, like Facebook Marketplace.

“Facebook or any of the social sites that sell products peer to peer, you can report it, but unfortunately Facebook isn’t going to let you know who that person is and the dollar amount may not be something that law local law enforcement can get involved in,” said Mary Gleason, Supervisory Special Agent Federal Bureau of Investigation Phoenix Field Office. “But if you report it to the site, they’re going to shut that vendor down.”

If you suspect fraud, Meta says, stop communicating with the buyer or seller and report it.
