The Atlanta Falcons did the inevitable on Tuesday, announcing that they would be switching their starting quarterbacks from veteran Kirk Cousins to rookie southpaw Michael Penix Jr.
The Falcons are taking a big swing, and they hope it pays off as they’re still very much alive in the NFC Playoff picture. The team announced the news on Tuesday, and many were surprised, including Penix, who shared where he was when the news broke.
The rookie told reporters on Wednesday he was in line to get a hot dog at Costco when the Falcons called him.
“I was shopping with my girlfriend—we was at Costco,” Penix said. “I got the call, they told me I was gonna be the starting quarterback …
