Farmers’ fears as firm builds disputed tanks for storing hydrogen [Video]

A county council has launched an investigation after a multinational firm built liquid hydrogen storage tanks on its campus, despite legal action over planning permission, writes Garreth MacNamee.

The two containers were constructed by Analog Devices at the Raheen Business Park in Limerick.

The company had initially been granted permission but it was then appealed by concerned farmers, who claim that the canal which flows through the park is carrying water which is killing their livestock and damaging the quality of their lands.

Despite an application for a judicial review running through the courts at the moment, the construction at the site continued, much to the frustration of local families, who have been farming the land since the 18th century.

A warning letter, seen by BusinessPlus.ie, was sent by the council earlier this week to Analog Devices, stating that what they had done was unauthorised.
