UTICA, N.Y. — Seventy-five percent of YWCA Mohawk Valley’s funding comes from the federal government. Therefore, when CEO Dianne Stancato learned that President Donald Trump proposed freezing funding for organizations like the Y, it left her with questions.
“I couldn’t believe it, so there was that disbelief. And then there was let’s get into the 90-day plan, here, how are we going to manage this? It’s a dire situation for us,” said Stancato.

President Trump rescinded the memo that froze funding. Yet, not a big sigh of relief, from Stancato.
“It’s rescinded, but not all of it is rescinded. But we don’t know exactly what is frozen and what is unfrozen, so as a nonprofit out here doing this work every single day saving lives, again, we’re still in chaos,” Stancato said.
