Federal parks project to invest millions into Kansas City [Video]

The U.S. Department of the Interior is investing millions of dollars into one of Kansas City’s largest parks.On Wednesday, the federal department announced that a substantial portion of $46.7 million in funding for community-led local park projects will go to significant improvements for Swope Park. Specifically, Kansas City will receive $4.25 million through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) program to redevelop the northwest portion of Swope Park. The project focuses on 215 of the park’s 1,805 acres. Improvements include a new neighborhood connection trail, a 10,000-square-foot playground, a bandstand and improvements to five pre-existing shelters.
