SEYMOUR, CT. (WFSB) – Flood victims in the Naugatuck valley are starting to receive money from the federal government.

It’s been nearly six weeks since the thousand-year flood.

We just heard from FEMA – more than 1.2 million dollars have been sent to victims so far and there’s more on the way.

As you can see – families really need it.

Emily Brisch is walking us through what’s left of her unsafe, unlivable home.

By next week – the 124-year-old structure will be demolished.

The floodwater was so powerful, so unforgiving – the home Emily and her husband were raising two young daughters in – can’t be saved.

“It’s still devastating to lose everything and have this burden on you,” Brisch said Friday. “It’s just the stress of how do we afford it?”

The Brisch’s moved in three years ago to the house, which is not in a flood zone, so they did not have flood insurance.

Emily received $35,000 from FEMA yesterday – $50,000less than the maximum.
