BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – FIRST ALERT FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A SIGNIFICANT FREEZE LATE NEXT WEEK: Confidence is increasing in a surge of frigid air impacting the country late next week. This has the potential to bring the deep freeze to the region.
Recent ensemble and deterministic forecast guidance has hinted at the possibility of teens and single digit lows in the Jan. 9 – Jan. 12 timeframe, with negative wind chill values. At this time, we don’t have much data supporting wintry precipitation; however, with this type of cold, it wouldn’t take much moisture to cause issues. A lot could change, so be sure to check in frequently for updates from our team of meteorologists.
I would suggest taking this opportunity over the next several days to start preparing for the cold, making sure pipes are insulated, and everything is properly winterized.
