Floridians can shop for back-to-school supplies tax-free starting Monday [Video]

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Back-to-school shopping season is in full swing across Florida. Starting Monday, families can buy several back-to-school items tax-free.

This includes clothing, shoes, and bookbags costing $100 or less, school supplies like pens, pencils, notebooks and other items that cost $50 or less, and laptops costing $1,500 or less.

Scott Shalley, the head of the Florida Retail Federation, said the 14-day tax holiday closely resembles the end-of-the-year shopping season when it comes to the impact on many businesses.

”It’s a legacy holiday. People look forward to it. They take advantage of it. They really take the opportunity to save. Our retailers are dialed into it,” Shalley said. “Our retailers are ready and prepared to have supplemental offerings to generate activity.”

The back-to-school holiday was included in a broader tax package lawmakers and Gov. Ron DeSantis approved this year.
