Friends of Rib Mountain kicks off the New Year with a hike [Video]

RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (WSAW) – Friends of Rib Mountain hosted a New Year’s Day ‘Healthy Hike’ at the Rib Mountain State Park to help people begin the year in nature.

Around 11 a.m., hikers gathered at the park office, bundled for the cooler January weather. The hike leader, Wes Ebert, showed the way up to the observation tower and back to the office on a 1.5-mile loop.

“We’ve got a trail that’s been marked which is, goes out to the tower and back. Anyone can come out and find it, it’s got green blazes on the trail, and go hiking on that, or any other trail in the park,” Ebert said.

Even hikers who are often on the Rib Mountain State Park trails said they enjoyed walking with the group.

“It’s nice to take the organized events because they’re led and find out additional information about the rock formations and the hill in general, so it was nice,” Kim …
