WORK TO LEARN MORE. NEW AT 11 GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL RESUME HOSTING BOOK FAIRS NEXT YEAR. DISTRICT SPOKESPERSON TIM WALLER ANNOUNCED TONIGHT. BOOK FAIRS WILL RETURN IN JANUARY OF 2025. THIS COMES AFTER THE DISTRICT PAUSED ALL BOOK FAIRS IN AUGUST BECAUSE OF NEW RULES FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OUTLINING HOW READING MATERIAL IS MADE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS. WALLER SAYS THE DISTRICT DETERMINED A PROCESS FOR BOOK FAIRS THAT PROMOTES STUDENT LITERACY, WHILE ALSO COMPLYING WITH THE NEW RULES. VENDORS MUST SIGN A FORM ACKNOWLEDGING THEY HAVE REVIEWED AND WILL COMPLY WITH THE RULES AND PROVIDE SCHOOLS WITH A LIST OF BOOKS AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS IN ADVANCE. WE ARE TOLD BOOKS WILL BE REVIEWED AND VETTED, AND A LIST WILL BE SHARED WITH PARENTS AND GUARDIANS AHEAD OF TIME. WALLER SAYS STUDENTS WILL NEED A SIGNED PERMISSION FORM TO ATTEND BOOK FAIRS.
