When Gyeongseong Creature first hit Netflix, it took us to 1945 as the Japanese imperial army was rushing to destroy the evidence of a lethal human experiment. As snow fell on the remote landscape of the Japanese occupying force known as Manchuria, corpses were thrown into piles to be burned. Prisoners were shot as men in uniforms prepared to set the entire complex ablaze.

They took what is needed to continue the work and set off to another corner of the Japanese empire: Gyeongseong, the city we know today as Seoul. In this horrific setting, inspired by the real-life crimes of chemical warfare division Unit 731, the show focused on monsters, born of human experimentation, designed to be used as weapons.
