HOWLAND — There’s a buzz in the air in Howland, as the Penobscot Valley High School girls basketball team is off to a hot start after picking up a win over rival Mattanawcook on Thursday night.
“It was a grinder,” said PVHS senior guard Ellie Austin. “So having each other’s backs, staying together, communicating, that’s really some important things to work on and I think we did that pretty well tonight.”
“We knew it was going to be tough, we knew we were going to have to stay together like she said, and we did a good job,” said PVHS junior guard Rylee Moulton. “We picked each other up, we worked on our defense which we’ve been doing for the past week or so, so we did a good job applying that.”
The Howlers only allowed 30 points in Thursday’s contest, and plan to lean on their tenacious defense all year long.
