Hartford programs help small business owners and workers save for retirement [Video]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Some small businesses along Pratt Street in Hartford say they’re staying afloat, thanks in part, to city and state programs.

“The efforts that the city of Hartford and that the state of Connecticut has put in has paid off and has helped small businesses so much,” Jane Yon, an employee at Sunberry Restaurant and Bar, said.

Leaders took to Pratt’s brick street on Tuesday in an effort to help small business owners help their employees save for retirement.

Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon oversees the MyCTSavings program.

“What MyCTSavings does is help that employer offer that program to their employees at, no cost to them, and we’re helping to close that retirement gap,” Scanlon said.

Scanlon said only about half of Connecticut businesses offer retirement plans, not because they don’t want to — because they can’t afford to.
